Why Ductless HVAC is a Hot Topic

There’s a new saying in the HVAC industry, “Once you go ductless you’ll never go back.” Armstrong Plumbing, Air & Electric certainly feels there’s a lot of truth in the statement.

It’s one reason why there’s so much excitement about ductless mini-split heat pumps. Some call them ventless air conditioners, but with heat pump technology they can deliver heating AND cooling directly to specific living areas. Some are calling ductless HVAC the wave of the future.

Despite the prevalence of central systems, they come with some inherent drawbacks. The ducts can often be the weak point. Armstrong technicians have found duct problems are often responsible for uneven heating or cooling.

Moving heated or cooled air through ducts can reduce efficiency by up to 30%. Mini splits eliminate the problem. Conditioned air is delivered through a discreet air handler usually mounted high on a wall.

As many as four air handlers are connected to one outdoor condenser. Each one can be set to a different temperature based on personal preference. The result is the hot and cold spots are gone.

Imagine the quiet and peace in your house when mini splits end the thermostat battle. No more of one family member complaining about it being too hot in the kitchen at the same time another says it’s too cold in the family room.

The installation is relatively easy. The only requirement is a 3-inch hole to connect the air handlers to the condenser. No ductwork means lower upfront costs. The outdoor unit can be hidden behind shrubs or behind the house up to 50 feet away.

Mini splits are the perfect choice for the attic or garage space you want to turn into a new media room or home office. You can heat and cool those areas without connecting them to your central system.

Let our Armstrong experts show you how mini splits manufactured by Mitsubishi or Daikin can make your home more comfortable.
