Ductless Mini Splits Can Bring Comfort & Convenience

We hear it all the time at Armstrong Plumbing, Air & Electric: complaints about uneven heating or cooling, a room or area that’s either too cold or too hot.

If you have that problem, then we need to talk about one of the best solutions, ductless mini split heat pumps. Armstrong can add cooling or heating to a particular location in your home without having to add any ductwork.

It’s a system that allows for “zoning” because you can have as many as four indoor air handlers connected to one outdoor condenser. Each one of those indoor units can be set to a different temperature, allowing great flexibility and efficiency along with personal comfort.

Another big advantage is ease of installation. Because mini splits don’t require ductwork, all that’s required is a three-inch hole to connect the air handler to the outside condenser. In addition, the outdoor unit can be hidden behind shrubs or behind the house up to 50-feet away.

A typical central HVAC system can lose as much as 30% of its heating and cooling capacity as the air moves through the ducts, before it even gets into the living areas of your home. A ductless system is more efficient because all of the heated or cooled air is delivered directly to the living area.

No matter what type of project you’re considering, there is a mini split system that can make it easier. In new construction, it’s a great companion to in-floor radiant heating because you can cool the house without adding expensive ductwork.

Those mini split heat pumps are also great for turning a garage, attic, or basement into a living space. It’s a fantastic way to heat AND cool those areas that may not be connected to your current central system.
